Deep in the Now…and Now Again

Deep in the Now
And Now Again
By Stephen Smoke

We tend to see
   What we believe
And disregard the rest

When what we see
   Just keeps us safe
Perhaps we miss the best

Such narrow sight
   Makes thieves of men
Who counterfeit their time

And overlook
   The masterpiece
A sad and subtle crime

Baptized in lies
   When I was young
Submerged by my own hand

Yet I am blessed
   To rise again
As Here and Now expand

Yes there are times
   When I can see
What’s Now and Now again

And moments clear
   Wash over me
Like tears that seek to mend
